Who We Play For was founded in Florida with the belief that college students can change the way our country looks at heart disease. In 2007 Rafe Maccarone died after collapsing on the soccer field due to a detectable heart condition. Amidst our movement to protect young athletes like Rafe, we learned that Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death among student athletes and there was an affordable solution through electrocardiogram (ECG) screenings. We are now working with schools and communities across Florida to deliver ECGs directly to students, and empowering communities to take up the fight against SCA.
